BOLLYSHAKE YOUR GROOVE THING

SUNDAY MAY 6, 2018  1-3PM

INSTRUCTOR: DIMITRA NEONAKIS

Come join our sister circle at Evergreen as we explore our feminine power through movement and meditation. A yoga warm up with modifications suitable for a range of fitness levels will prepare you to move like a Bollywood star. We will explore a mix of belly dance, classical Indian styles and banghara that will have you feeling like a goddess as you tone and strengthen your muscles and build cardiovascular fitness. A gentle yoga cool down and guided meditation will help us connect with the sacred feminine within ourselves and practice the mindfullness so essential to coping in our hectic post-modern world. A henna artist will be available to adorn you, and of course there will be bindis for all. Let’s welcome spring together as an empowered community.

Dimitra Neonakis has her MA in Dance from American University. Dimitra focuses on modern dance, and world dance with forays into hip hop, yoga and ballet. In the 90s she ran the Contemporary Movement Theater, a dance company and school based in Centreville, Maryland. Dimitra has also taught dance at the Gunston School, Partnering for Youth After School Programs, Experimental Movement Concepts, The Chesapeake Dance Theater, Joy of Motion, The Manor Discovery Center and Wye River Upper School.

Dimitra was honored to be selected for the Choreographer’s Workshop at Jacob’s Pillow and has performed in Maryland, DC, New Jersey, New York, Texas and Massachusetts.

Dimitra’s favorite roles have been in her own choreography. Honoring her grandmothers flight from the Nazis in her dance Lachrymosa and portraying Kali in the long-running production “Dark Goddess” at the Vortex Theater in Austin, Texas have been her favorite roles.

Dimitra enjoys empowering students of all ages to feel at home in their bodies and find peace, release and personal power through both structured and creative movement and meditation.
