This 90-minute workshop will introduce you to the art of Tai Chi (taiji quan). It has become known in the west as a gentle form of exercise, working with breath and developing both flexibility and strength. But it is also a powerful moving meditation. As our friend Rick Barrett puts it, [tai chi] takes us beyond sitting meditation and gives us valuable tools that can be used anywhere: shopping, driving, playing golf, dancing…whatever.
The mysterious and paradoxical world of tai chi ch’uan seems to defy the laws of physics. A finger stops a fist. A tiny woman lifts a man three times her size. That world becomes instantly accessible, however, when approached as an exercise of authentic engagement. Tai chi practice brings us into heightened states of body-mind-spirit integration.
We will introduce some tools you can use to begin to access these heightened states and also (we hope) inspire you to take up a Tai Chi practice. No experience necessary; wear clothing you feel comfortable moving in. Preference given to new students and pre-registrants. Class size will be capped at 12 so please register to secure your spot!
